The Storm- March 30th

My first attempt at portrait photography. I enjoy the emotions involved in taking portraits and plan on pursuing this area further.

Tower Power- March 29th

These are the Towers (dorms) just south of the Iowa State University campus.

Industrial Winter-March 28th

This is a nice time-lapse of the power facility in Ames behind the Band-shell. I saw the vapors in the sky and had to try to capture them.

Musical Note

Memorial Union ISU

This is a night shot of the Memorial Union here at Iowa State sitting on Lake Lavern. At 4am this morning I woke up and couldn't for the life of me get back to sleep. Instead of just laying there staring at the ceiling I decided to get up and do some long exposure photography. I am happy I did.

Pequeno Canyon- March 25th

I enjoy this photo because it looks like a large canyon that a person might see out west. It was actually a couple of flat rocks that stood about 3 feet off the ground in a creek in Ledges State Park.

Sunglass- March 24

In order to get this sunset feel behind a pair of sunglasses, I placed my Aviators on the edge of my couch, used a large mirror aiming up at the ceiling light, and a large aperture to blur the light into a yellow ball. The result gave the photo a very interesting mood and feeling.

Peterson Pits- March 23

This is the sunrise at the Peterson Pits just north of Ames, Ia. I used two shots and placed them together to get the proper exposure, although I over saturated the photo a bit. I am excited to receive my new neutral density filter in the mail next week so I can improve my landscape shots. I have a lot of practice ahead of me to produce photographs that can compete with the pros.

Light Abstraction

This photograph was created by placing my camera up on the ceiling and capturing a shot of a large incandescent light, with a fluorescent light in the background. The aperture was opened up and the focus was placed on the fluorescent light that was several feet away creating this scientific looking photograph.

I heard of someone who created a blog creating one design a day for a year to help them improve and keep their creative edge so I thought I would try it out with some photography.
